spring lab 2018 - amsterdam
in april 2018 choreolab europe organizes a 4-day spring lab in amsterdam, where advanced and professional dancers, movers, dancing choreographers and dance students can participate.
in this lab choreolab europe collaborates with guest choreographers and a local artist. the artistic team of choreolab europe (sanne clifford, anja gallagher and jordi ribot thunnissen) will be part of the labs, playgrounds and lectures as well. this team of choreographers & collaborators will share insights and their artistic research approaches on their selected topics: lab topics: swing, spiral, space guest choreographer hayley adams will work with explorations on opposite forces of symmetry and asymmetry, using mesmerizing forms on a kaleidoscope to inform body and group patterning. Like Wassily Kandinsky's artwork, the investigation will be to present chaos and structure simultaneously. Basic Laban theory will be used to build on playful repetition & dynamic action in space. note to self artistic co-director sanne clifford opens up her research to her new upcoming work 'note to self'. together we will question how to keep standing in a society of doing more and understanding less with a physical approach and include 'the viewer' in different ways. the lab is in collaboration with choreographer and dancer sandra kramerova. hybrid languages choreographer and dramaturge gabriela zuarez will be underpinning the principles of tango local dance towards the evolvement of a choreographic language and its system. she initiates to undergo inside-out determined choreographical cores (and techniques), impro- tasks and musical/rhythmics patterns. gabriela will share her findings during the ongoing research-base 'hybrid languajes', which is part of the cie el sur mundo project in Amsterdam-Buenos Aires 2017. Interaction between video and dance For her new creation anja gallagher is researching the possibilities of interaction between live dancing and simultaneous video projection on stage. In this lab we explore in what ways those two art forms can interact with each other, without getting lost in special effects, but to truly have a dialogue, one informing the other. also, corneliu ganea will give a workshop about his choreographic works such as tabula rasa and crepuscular. the focus is to share corneliu's moving style and his technique, his way of approaching movement and the creation process. here you see the tentative schedule for this spring lab:

what participants say about the labs:
read this blog by Ruby to get a vast experience overview of the fall lab in basel 2017.
Shorter impressions:
choreolab was a good chance for getting out of my comfort zone while getting to know other professionals and artists. I enjoyed the atmosphere and appreciate very much the tools and techniques learnt. I also experienced the chance to try out some experiments in the playground, which opened new territories of research. looking forward to the next one.

I am very grateful for participating in choreolab. it was really for me a 'revitalizing' experience in many aspects. I am 100% positive about it.
